When it comes to parenting, apparently Keyshawn Johnson doesn’t play any games.
The longtime star NFL wide receiver just yanked his son, Keyshaun Johnson Jr, off the Nebraska Cornhusker football team. Johnson Jr, who enrolled at NU in January with hope of playing this season, is being forced by his father to “mature” for six months after getting busted for marijuana possession in his dorm room.
“I never asked him,” Johnson Sr. said.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think that decision was in his hands. He squandered that decision. He still wants to play football, and he still wants to play for Nebraska. But if you don’t do the things you’re supposed to do, under the guidelines of me, it’s not going to happen.”
“One thing you will not do as my son is you will not embarrass Nebraska, you will not embarrass Mike Riley and you will not embarrass this family,” the elder Johnson said. “If you mature and you’re ready to resume your football career and academic goals, then Nebraska will be ready to embrace you.”
“You’re in college now. You’re an adult. You’re not a kid. You take a look at it from afar and let me know how important it is to you.”
Johnson Sr. noted his son may very well return to Nebraska, but may enroll in classes this fall at a junior college, with his son not planning to play college football anywhere else.
