After a close battle that left many unsure who would claim the MVP trophy this season, Matt Ryan has officially been named the NFL’s most valuable player for 2016-2017.

The 31-year-old Falcons quarterback in his 8th year finished the year with 373 completions in 534 attempts (69.9%) racking up 4,944 yards. He threw for 38 touchdowns to a wealth of WRs with just 7 interceptions (1.3%), leading the statically 8th best offensive in NFL history to the Super Bowl. Ryan also led the lead the lead in quarterback rating.

Ryan topped out his Super Bowl LI opponent Tom Brady, who had 291 completions in 432 attempts (67.5%), throwing for 3,554 yards. He only threw an astounding 2 interceptions compared to 28 touchdowns (0.5%).

One of the biggest factors keeping Brady from taking the award was missing the first four games of the season while under suspension for the deflate-gate saga.

On the bright side for the Patriots QB, the last seven quarterbacks to win MVP before heading into the Super Bowl have all lost.
