Photos Of Jason Pierre-Paul’s Hand During First Presser Since Fireworks Accident

Two days after signing an one-year, incentive heavy deal with the New York Giants, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul met with the media Friday afternoon to discuss everything that happened to him since the July 4th accident that cost his right index finger and a lot of money.

Pierre-Paul refused to talk about the accident, saying there will be a time and place to tell what happened but right now he’s focused on football, added he’s still the same guy and is “ready to play football.”

During the 11-minute press conference, photos were taken of JPP’s damaged hand and one can imagine how hard it will be to play without an index finger.  Pictures taken by also show damage to his thumb and middle finger:

Pierre-Paul didn’t say much about the fireworks accident but he did say that this was something he has done for kids for the last 6-7 years, also added he wasn’t frightened or scared but did say he was “fortunate to be alive,” per ESPN’s Josina Anderson. JPP also said that there will be “no fireworks” for him in 2016.

When at his best, Pierre-Paul is a strong asset for the New York Giants (4-3) who are struggling to rush the passer this year despite sitting in first place in the NFC East.  Because of the devastating nature of JPP’s hand, the only way anyone will know what he’s capable of doing is by watching him get back on the field, now while there’s no definite return date, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reported the team is hoping for Week 10 vs. New England.

Pierre-Paul showed up to the Giants in great shape, head coach Tom Coughlin says the team is impressed with JPP’s strength and conditioning and it’s all about getting JPP into practice and learning the playbook.
