ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported at 11:017 am. Wednesday that the Denver Broncos were in talked with former Idaho QB Uncle Rico, a 6′ 2″ 239lb. quarterback. A few hours later, a press conference was announced. Rico, by all accounts, is expected to start for the team over newly acquired quarterback Mark Sanchez, the now former Philadelphia Eagle.

Vice president of football operations Joh Elway told reporters who where covering the presser, “It will be a little bit of a transition to have a guy [Peyton Manning] who couldn’t throw a football more than 10 yards to a guy who can throw one over those mountains, but a signing this early will give him a chance to work with our wide receivers and build that ever important trust.”

He also told another that he thinks Rico could be “dynamite” with him throwing to electrifying receivers like Sanders and Thomas out wide.

Rico signed to what is an alleged 4-year, 31 million dollar contact, with 12 of those millions guaranteed, a figure substantially less than they’d be paying Brock Osweiler had he stayed in Denver.

Though Rico by all accounts is rough around the edges, having a backup QB in Sanchez with valuable experience running an offense, and sometimes into his lineman’s ass, will help lock up that position and allow the Broncos to tend to other positions in the upcoming draft.

When choosing Denver over other landing spots such as New York and Cleveland, Rico told the media, “Well there’s simply more mountains,” ending his answer with a bit of a wink.
