It’s now learned that the man who killed McKnight, Ronald Gasser, has been released from custody at the custody Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Dept., with no charges filed.

According to TMZ, the 54-year-old Gasser was questioned and released “sometime overnight” after officials believed they had no reason to hold him any longer, even though authorities confirmed he “definitely” shot McKnight, who was not in possession of any weapons at the time of the incident.

TMZ also noted the investigation is still “very much open” and the case could go to the grand jury or the district attorney, which will decide whether or not charges should be filed.
