Football fans everywhere were dumbfounded the moment they saw Derek Anderson take the field as quarterback for the Panthers on their first possession of Sunday night’s game versus the Seahawks. To magnify the situation, Anderson threw an interception on the very first play.
It was learned during the game that Cam Newton was told he wouldn’t be starting by head coach Ron Rivera during to infracting upon the team’s dress-code, specifically not wearing a tie to the game.
TMZ obtained footage of the very moment Rivera told his QB he wouldn’t be starting the important game as the Panthers were exiting the bus at Century Link Field in Seattle, Cam’s face obvious with disappointment.
After the game, Newton explained, “I didn’t follow dress code, and Coach told me I wasn’t going to start. I stand by his decision.”
According to reports, Newton said he couldn’t wear one of the neck ties available to him as it wouldn’t go with his outfit.
