Steelers Alejandro Villanueva Stood Alone For National Anthem While His Team Remained In Locker Room

Shortly before the Steelers kicked off against the Bears today in Chicago, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin announced that his entire team would not partake in the National Anthem, but rather stay back in the locker room. That held true, expect for one player.

Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva decided to come out of the locker room to stand just outside the tunnel while the anthem played, hand over heart.

The reasoning? The National Anthem means a little more to Villanueva than most.

A Captain Army Ranger in the U.S. Army, Villanueva served three tours of duty in Afghanistan and has a Bronze Star for valor to his name.
