Earlier this week, Cam Newton came under fire after he made some controversial remarks towards a female reporter. Newton was heavily criticized and ultimately lost an endorsement deal with Dannon Yogurt.
Well, Dannon has already found Cam’s replacement in the likes of Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, according to ESPN’s Adam Scheffer.
Dannon has already scheduled Prescott to shoot his first TV commercial this week in Dallas.
Newton apologized on Thursday for his “extremely degrading and disrespectful” choice of words after being asked a question by Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue during Cam’s weekly press conference on Wednesday.
Michael Neuwirth, a spokesperson for Dannon, said in a statement Thursday that the brand was “shocked and disheartened” by Newton’s remark and stated that it would cut ties with the 2015 NFL MVP.
Dak Prescott, who’s becoming a shooting star since taking the helm as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys has signed more endorsement deals than any NFL player in the last year.
He has deals with Beats By Dre, Tostitos tortilla chips, Campbell’s Chunky Soup, Pepsi, 7-Eleven, New Era Caps, AT&T and recently signed a new autograph deal with Panini and a private air travel deal with Nicholas Air.
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell:
Industry sources say his sponsorships will likely pay him about $3 million a year, which is more than five times what the Cowboys will pay him this year ($540,000).
Despite having all these endorsement deals, Dak ensures that none of these will conflict with his real job, playing starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys sit at 2-2 and will host the Green Bay Packers in a rematch of last year’s thrilling 2016 Divisional Round playoff game.
