Manti Te’o is responsible for one of the greatest, most insane sagas of all-time, and it’s even crazier thinking back on it and realizing yes, that actually happened.
The former Notre Dame star linebacker was one of the top players in the nation back in 2012 when he announced that both his grandmother and his girlfriend had died on the same day, September 11, 2012.
Te’o proclaimed that his girlfriend, Stanford University student Lennay Kekua, had been injured in a car accident, and was discovered during her treatment to have leukemia.
It was later found out that a woman by the name of Lennay Kekua didn’t exist and had never existed, with the mythical girlfriend being at the center of a catfish hoax targeting Te’o.
The whirlwind finally subsided after a seemingly endless amount of jokes and memes, with Te’o having a relatively decent career in the NFL, now as a free agent.
The linebacker does have a girlfriend these days, and in case you’re wondering, she is 100% confirmed to be real.
