President Trump Says Drew Brees Shouldn’t Have Apologized And No NFL Players Should Kneel During Anthem

President Trump said New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees should not have apologized for statements he made on players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racism and police brutality in the United States.

He didn’t stop there, however. The President also said that players should not be allowed to kneel during the playing of the star spangled banner:

The tweets came after Brees argued during an interview with Yahoo Finance that anyone kneeling was “disrespecting the flag.”  Brees faced harsh criticism from current and former players and apologized a day later.

This isn’t the first time Trump has harped on players standing for the anthem, back in 2016, Trump criticized the NFL and Colin Kaepernick, telling NFL owners to take the “son of b*tches” off the field when the kneel during the anthem.
