Referee Hip Checks Bears Player Before Calling Penalty On Him For Taunting

You tend to occasionally see the flag/ejection for a player contacting a referee, but you don’t tend to see a referee contacting a player.

In crunch time during the Bears – Steelers MNF game, Cassius Marsh was called for a taunting penalty, giving Pittsburgh a critical first down following a 4th & 15 stop.

While Marsh was heading back to the Chicago sideline, Marsh was purposefully hip checked by head referee Tony Corrente. Corrente, who appeared to be already reaching for the flag during the nudge, then threw it on Marsh for the taunting.
