The starting job won’t just be handed to Baker Mayfield. He will have to earn it, and so far, he is having a rough go at it.
The former Cleveland Browns quarterback, was under pressure as it came off the edge, so he started to backpedal and throw an errant pass in the middle of the field. It was easily picked off by a defensive a defensive lineman.
His first practice as a member of the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday was a difficult one as he threw an interception and did not find the end zone.
Everything hasn’t been all bad as his second day produced better results. Mayfield went 11-for-16 with five touchdown passes, two to DJ Moore, according to Ellis Williams and Varun Shankar of the Charlotte Observer.
The Panthers are keen to keep this quarterback competition going despite Mayfield’s presence.
