The National Football League has a big gambling problem.
With the league already suspending five players this offseason for breaking the league’s sports gambling rules, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that one NFL player lost $8 million gambling during the 2022 NFL season.
The player remains unnamed.
The NFL’s policy on gambling is pretty simple — players are allowed to gamble on sports outside of the NFL as long as they are not at team facilities.
Four Lions players, including last year’s first-round pick Jameson Williams, were suspended for placing either NFL bets or bets on college games while on team grounds. Commanders defensive lineman Shaka Toney was also implicated in that wave of suspensions.
Last month, Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers released a statement admitting that he had broken the league’s policy on gambling and would likely be suspended.
