Lions’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson Carted Off After Suffering ‘Serious’ Injury During Training Camp Practice

The Detroit Lions had plenty of good vibes entering 2023 but it seems like those good vibes might have taken a hit after what happening during Day 2 of training camp.

According to multiple reports out of Lions camp, C.J. Gardner-Johnson was carted off the field after suffering a non-contact leg injury. The injury was to his right leg/knee.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff and several other teammates came to check on him afterward as they were in the midst of a team period.

Gardner-Johnson was visibly emotional after the play, as he pointed near his upper leg to trainers while laying on the practice field.

The Lions brought Gardner-Johnson in as a major upgrade to help the secondary as their top free agent. He agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $8 million in March.

Last season, with the Philadelphia Eagles, he finished tied for the most interceptions in the NFL (6) despite missing five games with a lacerated kidney. He became the only Eagle since the 1970 merger to record interceptions in five consecutive games.
