Ron Rivera has announced that Sam Howell will be the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders when they open the 2023 season against the Arizona Cardinals.
Howell has worked solely with the first team this entire offseason and training camp. He has taken nearly all first-team reps with Jacoby Brissett, who was signed this offseason, took the majority of the second-team snaps.
Washington hosts the Arizona Cardinals in the season opener Sept. 10.
The Commanders drafted Howell in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of North Carolina.
