Things are trending downward for the Michigan State football program, and they are now inventing ways to embarrass themselves Saturday night.
Prior to a game where one of their players was ejected for using a diving head-butt onto an opposing player, that Spartans came under fire for throwing up an image of Hitler onto their videoboard pregame.
The image was in conjunction with a trivia game they had going to keep fans occupied during warmups, and one of the questions was the country where the former German dictator was born.
The school has issued an apology, stating that the image was via a third party service, one that will no longer be used.
“We are deeply sorry for the content that was displayed, as this is not representative of our institutional values,” Michigan State associate athletic director Matt Larson said in a statement. “MSU will not be using the third-party source going forward and will implement stronger screening and approval procedures for all videoboard content in the future.”
Talk about bad timing too…
Oh! And Michigan ended up beating their in-state rival 49-0.
