REPORT: Commanders ‘Anticipate’ To Trade Either Montez Sweat Or Chase Young Ahead Of Trade Deadline

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, there are growing rumors that the Washington Commanders are expected to trade one of their two star pass rushers.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Washington Commanders are ‘anticipated’ to trade either Montez Sweat or Chase Young by Tuesday’s trade deadline:

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report echoed the sentiment but added that the Commanders are looking for at least a second round pick for either pass rusher:

Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Report said earlier this week that the Commanders had received an offer for Sweat but no offer for Chase Young as of yet.

Young, 24, was the Commanders No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft and he took him NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors that year. The Commanders declined his fifth-year option on Young and he’s expected to be a free agent at the end of the season.

In 2023, Young has appeared in five games for the Commanders and recorded 11 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks and one pass deflection.

Sweat, 27, is a former first-round pick of Washington back in 2019. He was entering the fourth year of his four-year rookie contract when Washington picked up the fifth-year option on Sweat worth $10.892 million fully guaranteed for the 2023 season.

In 2023, Sweat has appeared in six games for Washington and recorded 20 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass deflection.
