Dak Prescott and Brock Purdy are two MVP candidate this season for the splendid play but one former NFL MVP thinks they are nothing but game managers.
During a recent episode of his podcast “4th and 1 with Cam Newton”, Cam considers Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson as elite QBs, but referees to Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy and Tua Tagovailoa as “game managers” and guys that are not “difference-makers.”
“But Brock, they’re not winning because of him,” said Newton. “He’s not turning the ball over. He’s managing the game. And if we were to put that in its own right, as game managers, Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jared Goff, and really, Dak Prescott…these are game managers. They’re not difference makers.”
Here’s the clip:
Newton expanded on his take, saying those quarterbacks are not responsible for their team’s winning, but rather managing the team so they don’t lose and play mistake-free football.
This past Sunday, Dak Prescott’s dominant play led the Cowboys to their fifth straight win, securing first place in the NFC East. Prescott’s play has been a huge reason for the Cowboys success as he leads the NFL in passing touchdowns (28) while also throwing for 3,505 yards. He’s also limited his interceptions to just six.
Meanwhile Purdy has completed 70 precent of his passes while throwing 3,553 yards and 25 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions. Tua on the other hand has thrown for 3,697 yards, 24 touchdowns and has a passer-rating of 104.8.
Meanwhile, Cam Newton remains a free agent in a season where we’ve seen over 9 starting quarterbacks go down with injuries.
