The Broncos had about the worst start to a season imaginable (unless you’re a Carolina Panthers fan), going 1-5 in the first six games under the Sean Payton regime, but that was immediately turned around following what included a 50-point blowout to the Dolphins when Denver became arguably the hottest team in football, winning their next four and six of their next eight.
That slew of wins grinded to a halt though, with the Broncos dropping three of the last four, most recently an embarrassing loss to the 2-win Patriots at home on Christmas.
Following the loss, Sean Payton notified Russell Wilson that they would be benching him in favor for Jarrett Stidham in hopes of giving the team a spark for a team who isn’t out of the playoff hunt just yet.
The benching alludes to the team perhaps offloading Wilson in the offseason, eating a huge chunk of change in the process in what would go down as one of the worst trades in league history.
The Broncos seem to be trying to rectify all they’re able to in the meantime to save on some of that money.
