Whenever two NFL teams get together for joint practices in the summer heat, tempers usually flare and Monday’s practice between the New York Giants and Detroit Lions was no exception.
According to multiple reporters who were on the scene in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Giants defense got into a huge brawl with the Lions offense after Amon-Ra St. Brown took exception to a hit from a Giants defender.
After that, another skirmish broke out and this one involving Daniel Jones and the Giants offense getting into it with the Lions defense.
Yes, the Giants quarterback was involved.
According to SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes, the brawl broke out one play after Daniel Jones had the ball hit out of his hands, which is a big no-no. Quarterbacks are not suppose to be contacted during practices.
Daniel Jones spoke out about the incident after the practice, telling reporters, “A situation happens like that, you try to stand up for your guys, but I thought it was a good competitive practice all day today,” said Jones. “We made some plays and did some good things. There are things we need to shore up for sure, but good intensity and competitive spirit today.”
But that wasn’t the only skirmish of the afternoon. As practice was wrapping up, another fight broke out that eventually led to Giants GM Joe Schoen stepping in and stopping it.
The Giants and Lions will be on the same practice field tomorrow before playing in a preseason game on Thursday at Metlife Stadium.
