The future starts now in Denver.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton announced after practice on Wednesday that rookie Bo Nix will be the team’s starting quarterback to start the 2024 season.
Nix will join elite company, becoming the first Denver rookie to start the regular-season opener since John Elway did it in 1983.
“Obviously, that’s great to share with such a great player like John Elway,” Nix told reporters. “Doesn’t matter when your first start is. Doesn’t matter if you have to wait or you go right now, you just want to go out there and get the win, and ultimately compete at a high level. … So that’s what my goal is at the beginning is just to give our team the best chance to win games.”
Nix impressed during preseason action, displaying command over the offense, good accuracy and athleticism when the play breaks down. Over two preseason tilts, Nix has led the Broncos on six scoring drives. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions.
The Bo Nix era will kickoff on Sept. 8 against the Seattle Seahawks.
