Referees Called Facemask Penalty On The Wrong Team During Cowboys-Giants Game

It’s been a rough start for officiating tonight.

After forcing a 3-and-out on the Cowboys opening possession, the Giants put together a nice drive on the first offensive

After forcing a 3-and-out on Dallas’ opening possession, the Giants moved into enemy territory on their first march. On 2nd-and-7 from the Cowboys’ 37, a designed run by quarterback Daniel Jones picked up four yards.

However, the referees threw the flag on Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger for a 15-yard face mask penalty. Instead of 3rd-and-3, New York was left with 2nd-and-18.

There was only one problem though. Replay showed that Bellinger was actually the one who had his facemask grabbed by Dallas’ DeMarvion Overshown.

It likely cost the Giants a touchdown and they settled for a field goal.
