Robert Saleh has found a new job.
Two weeks after being fired by the New York Jets, Saleh has joined the Green Bay Packers coaching staff in a new role.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said the former New York Jets coach will work with the his team through Thursday this week, calling Saleh’s role “fluid.”
“I think that’s always a good deal to have the perspective, that defensive perspective on that side of the ball,” LaFleur said Wednesday, via the team’s official website. “So, (he’s) just taking a look at some of the things we’re doing.
“It’s a good opportunity for him to learn and also for him to help us and give us perspective on how teams might see us, how they might defend us.”
Saleh has ties to LaFluer as the two have been longtime friends since working together as Central Michigan University graduate assistants in 2004. Saleh played a big role in getting LaFleur to the NFL when he was hired by the Houston Texans as an offensive assistant in 2008. Saleh also hired LaFleur’s brother, Mike, to be the Jets’ offensive coordinator from 2021-22.
Saleh was fired by the Jets on Oct. 8 after a disappointing 2-3 start to his fourth season as head coach.
The Packers (5-2), who aren’t scheduled to face the Jets in 2024, will go on the road on the road on Sunday to face the Jacksonville Jaguars.
