The Dallas Cowboys season went from bad to worse.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reports that Dak Prescott suffered a hamstring injury and the injury is “way worse than initially feared.” He’s expected to miss multiple weeks.
After suffering the injury on Sunday, Prescott seemed set on being back on the field against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10.
“I mean, it’s hard for me to say. I would say that I’ll be out there next week,” Prescott said, per Archer. “Once again, I’ve got to see. Luckily, I can say I’ve healed fast, I’ve progressed fast on injuries and things, so thankful for that. Got to get a picture of it. When we get a picture of it, I guess we’ll see how bad it is.
Despite the Cowboys’ struggles, Prescott has thrown for 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Dallas fell to 3-5 following Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.
Prior to Week 1 this year, Prescott signed a historic four-year, $240 million contract extension.
With Prescott set to miss some time, the Cowboys will likely turn to Cooper Rush under center. Rush, who is in his seventh season, has appeared in four games this season, completing 22 of his 39 passes for 167 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Dallas also has Trey Lance, who it acquired ahead of the 2023 season, as an option at quarterback. Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft, has played just eight games in his career, but could perhaps see the field more now that Prescott is out.
