The New York Giants began the week by benching starting quarterback Daniel Jones and turning the page to second-year quarterback Tommy DeVito.
But the team didn’t just bench Jones, they demoted to fourth string behind Devito, Drew Lock and newly-signed Tim Boyle.
During Thursday’s practice, Jones was doing what every third or fourth string quarterback does, playing scout team. According to multiple reporters at practice, Jones was playing scout team safety.
The Giants, 2-8 on the season, are set to take on the Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon. The expectation is Daniel Jones will be either the emergency quarterback or will be inactive and while he’s still on the Giants roster, it’s clear his time in New York is over.
