REPORT: Garrett Wilson ‘May Request Trade’ If Aaron Rodgers Returns To Jets In 2025

The New York Jets have two games remaining in what has been a disaster 2024 season and are about to enter an important offseason with their dysfunctional owner looking for a new general manager and head coach.

That new general manager and head coach will be tasked to make a decision on the future of Aaron Rodgers and if they decide to keep the 40-year-old in 2025, it could lead to one of their best players requesting a trade.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there have been “whispers” about wide receiver Garrett Wilson being unhappy with the current situation and that seems to be friction between Wilson and Rodgers. The friction is so bad that if Rodgers returns in 2025, Wilson may request a trade.

“Wilson has not requested a trade, but if Rodgers is back, that is one of the options for how to proceed,” Rapoport wrote.

Wilson is eligible for a contract extension this offseason but was noncommittal when asked recently if he wants to remain with Gang Green.

“I don’t know,” Wilson said. “I just do whatever, I go about my day, however, and I’ll be where my feet are at. If they do, that would be a blessing. That would be awesome. I love the Jets. At the end of the day, they were the ones that believed in me. I can’t be worrying about all that. Just going to finish these three games the right way.”

With 90 receptions for 987 yards, Wilson is on the verge of his third-straight 1,000-yard season. He also has already set a career-high in touchdown catches with six, but his connection with Rodgers has seemed a tad off most of the year.

Rodgers has not indicated if he intends to play another season in 2025, and some reports have said Jets owner Woody Johnson does not want the 41-year-old signal caller back for another go.

Rodgers final two home games are against the Bills in Buffalo before closing it out at home against the Miami Dolphins in Week 18.
