On Monday, the New York Jets introduced Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. Glenn opened his introductory press conference by setting the tone and addressed a few of the most obvious questions facing the Jets. The first, and most pressing, was about the future of Aaron Rodgers.
Glenn approached the topic strongly but ultimately kept it non-committal. He told reporters that he had spoken with Rodgers, but wouldn’t rush to make a decision; he merely promised the Jets would find the “right answer” when it comes to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
The team’s owner Woody Johnson has made it clear the decision about Aaron Rodgers future with the Jets will be made by head coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Glenn is open to the idea of bringing Rodgers back for a third season in New York.
“Aaron Glenn, to my understanding, is open to it. Rodgers as well. Expect those conversations to ramp up in the coming week,” Rapoport said Sunday.
Don’t be surprised if the Jets make a decision on Rodgers before the Super Bowl. Glenn told Jay Glazer of Fox Sports that the team doesn’t want to “drag” out the situation.
