The new regime for the New York Jets reportedly had some strict conditions for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers if he were to remain with Gang Green.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Tuesday’s episode of Scoop City that Rodgers’ weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show were among the things that would have to change if he wished to continue his tenure in New York.
“I was told that when they had conversations with Aaron Rodgers about the future would look like, [they said,] ‘If you’re gonna be a part of this team, you’re gonna attend all of training camp, you’re not gonna do Pat McAfee interviews anymore,'” Russini said at around the 28-minute mark.
Multiple reports surfaced during Super Bowl week that Rodgers time with the Jets is over. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that the four-time NFL MVP flew to New Jersey last week to meet with Glenn and Mougey and was informed that the team would part ways with him.
Rodgers has never been shy of showing his interests outside of football and he use to have weekly interviews on The Pat McAfee Show to talk about various topics. However, Russini explained that’s not going to fly with the Jets as Glenn and Mougey try to rebuild the team’s culture.
“This, to me, is Aaron Glenn getting control back. I think it’s Aaron Glenn that’s the one pushing for, ‘I’m holding everyone accountable, and every single person on this team is going to be treated the same way,'” Russini said.
