Mac Jones is headed to the San Francisco 49ers, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal worth $7 million with $5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 26-year-old appeared in 10 games last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars, including seven starts in place of injured Trevor Lawrence. He completed 65% of his passes, throwing for 1,672 yards and eight touchdowns, along with eight interceptions in those games. The Jags went 2-5 in games Jones’ started, averaging just 15 points per game.
Before being taken in 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, Jones was rumored to be in the radar of the San Francisco 49ers, who had the No. 3 pick in that Draft. The 49ers opted to take Trey Lance out of North Dakota State and Jones went to New England.
He now heads to San Francisco where he will be the presumed backup to Brock Purdy.
