In a move that underscored their commitment to securing a franchise quarterback, the Tennessee Titans declined a substantial trade offer from the New York Giants for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants’ proposal included their No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, a first-round pick in 2026, and additional selections. Despite the enticing package, the Titans remained steadfast, selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the top pick.
Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi emphasized the organization’s unified decision to retain the first overall pick, highlighting their belief in Ward’s potential to lead the team into a new era. Ward’s impressive college career, which included stints at Incarnate Word, Washington State, and Miami, culminated in an NCAA record 158 passing touchdowns. His accolades include the Jerry Rice Award, Southland Offensive Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, First-Team Associated Press All-American honors, and the Davey O’Brien Award.
The Giants’ aggressive pursuit of Ward reflects their ongoing quest to find a long-term solution at quarterback. Having signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason, the team is clearly seeking stability and future leadership under center. Despite their efforts, the Giants ultimately selected Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick.
Someone might want to remind the Giants that not winning meaningless games at the end of the season might alleviate this issue.
