ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports, is progressing towards a deal to acquire NFL Media.
According to Andrew Marchand of TheAthletic.com, there is “optimism on both sides” that a deal will get done.
“Nothing is completed as of yet. If you’re ESPN, you want to do that deal because you have your direct-to-consumer. Fantasy is a big aspect of it. They could be the official home of fantasy football, which you can put that NFL logo on everything, and that helps you.”
Marchand went on to say that this is something NFL owners are heavily in favor of
“The NFL owners, they want to do this,” Marchand said. “They’ve been trying to unload NFL Media for a while it feels like a good thing for ESPN to have that further relationship with the NFL going forward.”
In 2024, the NFL cut a lot of costs at the NFL Network, canceling an evening studio show for a much cheaper option which included an all-remote program. The Good Morning Football show was the marquee show that started at 6 a.m. ET and went until 10 a.m. ET.
For ESPN, an acquisition of NFL Media will certainly give them more favoritism among the NFL.
