REPORT: Shedeur Sanders Expected To Start For Browns In Week 1 Preseason Game vs Panthers

The NFL world will get a look at Shedeur Sanders right away.

According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, the Cleveland Browns are expected to start 2025 fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders in the team’s Week 1 preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.

Sanders finds himself in line to start amidst the injuries to fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel and veteran Kenny Pickett. Joe Flacco, who’s listed as the Browns starting quarter, most likely won’t play in the preseason game.

A lot of the offseason storylines have been centered around the Cleveland Browns quarterback competition as the team will likely be without Deshaun Watson due to an achilles injury. They have turned over their quarterback room adding four quarterbacks including veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and drafting Dillon Gabriel (3rd round) and Shedeur Sanders (5th round) in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The team most recently also signed veteran Tyler Huntley making him the fifth quarterback on the roster.

The Browns will kickoff their preseason on Friday against the Carolina Panthers at 7 p.m. ET.
