If there was ever a day where the NBA could close the gap with the NFL in ratings, Christmas Day would’ve been hit as the NFL’s schedule was filled with teams that were eliminated from playoff contention and were starting backup quarterbacks.
The NBA, meanwhile, were playing their marquee teams (Knicks, Warriors, Lakers), their defending-champion (Thunder) and a young-and-upcoming team with a rising star (Spurs) and yet, the NFL crushed them in ratings, even with the NFL games being on a streaming-only broadcast.
The NFL’s quest to take over Christmas Day has been a huge success and it’s no surprise, the NFL is immensely more popular than any other sport in America but the NBA not being able to close the gap should be disappointing for them.
To make matters worse, the NFL doesn’t seem to be inclined to slow down their Christmas Day schedule, it’ll continue for years to come.
