Jim Harbaugh has been critical of the 49ers management, and it’s hard to not be after the team has gone from the Super Bowl to the dumpster fire of the NFL.
The Michigan Wolverines head coach was fired after a 44-19-1 record (the fourth best start to any coaching career in NFL history) and an NFC championship. He thinks he should have been given some sort of reward on his way out – not for his accomplishments, but for lasting so long under San Francisco’s management.
Harbaugh appeared on the Mercury News’ Tim Kawakami’s podcast Thursday and talked about how he endured under the front office, saying:
“I think we did set a record for coaching there the longest under the present ownership. I take pride in that. Maybe there should be an endurance medal, a courage medal, for that.”
49ers CEO Jed York, who’s not popular amongĀ fans, primarily for letting Harbaugh go, has since fired both coaches since in Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly.
Doug Williams of NBC Bay Area said the team is still haunted by York’s decision to back then-general manager Trent Baalke “in a battle” with Harbaugh.
The 49ersĀ have gone 7-25 since Harbaugh left.
