Ron Rivera picked up one of the biggest wins of his coaching career on Monday, leading the Washington Commanders to a 32-21 victory over the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on the road.
Rivera was coaching the game with a heavy heart after losing his mother, Dolores, a few weeks ago.
Moments after the win at Lincoln Financial Field, Rivera shared a message with the players in the locker room after he got the game ball: “My mother would’ve been proud.”
His mother Dolores passed away on Halloween. Rivera missed practice to fly to California and spend time with her before she passed. He flew back to coach the Commanders to a 17-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Rivera has been dealing with his share of adversity since becoming the head coach of the Washington Commanders including issues with owner Dan Snyder to Rivera, himself, dealing with skin cancer last year.
