REPORT: Daniel Jones Fires Agent After Negotiations With Giants Get Off To ‘Bumpy’ Start & Is Seeking $40-$45 Million Per Year

Daniel Jones is set to become a free agent and while all signs point to a return to New York with the Giants, Jones has already made one big change that will have a pretty big impact on how the contraction negotiations with the Giants play out.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Jones has parted ways with the agency that represents him – CAA — and is expected to join Athletes First:

We don’t know the exact reason behind Jones’ agent switch but Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post is reporting that Jones’ negotiations with the Giants have gotten off to a “bumpier” start and both sides now believe a franchise tag is in serious play:

If the Giants do place the franchise tag on Daniel Jones, he would cost them $32 million against their salary cap. According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Jones is seeking a contract that will pay him between $40 to $45 million per year, which is a lot more than what the Giants are willing to pay:

The deadline to place the franchise tag on a player is March 7 so the Giants still have time but so far, it seems like the Giants and Jones are far off.
