BREAKING: Titans Unveil Throwback Houston Oilers Jerseys

The Tennessee Titans are throwing it back to the Houston Oilers days as the team officially unveiled their Houston Oilers throwback uniforms, which they will wear for two home games during the 2023 season.

The Titans also inquired about wearing them for a road game in Miami against the Dolphins, but it’s request was denied.

The Oilers were founded in 1960 and they spent 37 seasons in Houston before moving to Tennessee, where the team name remained for the 1997-98 season before changing to the Titans in 1999.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk said last year the team wanted to continue paying homage to the franchise’s history. The organization has honored Houston Oilers players at alumni events in years past, and a number of Oilers are in the franchise’s Ring of Honor.

“Oilers history is Titans history,” Strunk said last year. “We know our fans feel passionately about showcasing that legacy on game day, and we’re actively working on making throwback jerseys possible in the near future. Stay tuned!”

Here are some more photos of the awesome throwbacks which include:

White helmets, with the famed oil derrick, with red facemasks and red stripes outside of a thicker light blue stripe on the top. White pants, or britches, with red stripes on each side of a thicker light blue stripe down the side and red and white stripes on light blue and white socks.

Tennessee wore Oilers throwback uniforms four times in 2009 as part of the AFL’s 50th anniversary, but they were based on the team’s original design, which featured a Columbia blue helmet.

The uniform, which is on Nike’s new Vapor F.U.S.E. template, is complete with “Luv Ya Blue!” inside the back collar as a nod to the Oilers’ fanbase in Houston, as well as light blue socks.

The Titans will announce which games the uniforms will be worn at 8 a.m. ET on July 27.
