It was an afternoon to forget for C.J. Stroud after a four interception performance in Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round Game against the New England Patriots. Despite the Texans defense forcing three Patriots turnovers, the Texans were still outclassed, 28-16, as they saw their season end in the divisional round yet again.
There were many calling for Stroud to be benched at halftime but the Texans stuck with the former No. 2 overall pick and that support didn’t change after the game with head coach DeMeco Ryans saying Stroud is the Texans quarterback going forward. Star pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. took his support of Stroud to another level by revealing that he told the 24-year-old that he’s “still the best quarterback in the NFL.”
Here’s the postgame clip:
Stroud went 20 of 47 for 212 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions, all four coming in the first half. The Texans seem to be still behind Stroud but it’ll be interesting to see how they approach his contract situation this offseason after Stroud struggled in the playoffs.
Stroud is entering the final year of his rookie contract as the team picked up his fifth year option.
