Weed Dispensary Looking To Buy Denver Broncos Stadium Naming Rights

DENVER, CO – The Broncos are slowly becoming some fan’s second favorite team.

After once predominant sporting good company Sports Authority filed for bankruptcy in March, a Colorado marijuana dispensary is has reportedly interested in buying the naming right to the stadium.

According to CBS 4 in Denver, Native Roots, a Denver based dispensary with clearly some serious dough is “fully ready to make a multi-million dollar commitment if the contract between Sports Authority Field at Mile High and Sports Authority ever ends.”

The company claims the interest is far from a publicity stunt: “[It’s] not a joke, we’re very serious.” Native Roots has grown exponetially over the corse of legalization, expanding from a single location to 14 stores.

The stadium has been named Sports Authority Field since 2011, but with the chain closing 140 of its 450 stores nationwide this year, the franchise is obviously looking to cut spending.

According to sources, if the sporting goods retailer is unable to make the payment, it will have 30 days to make good, but if that passes, the stadium’s district board may be allowed to terminate the deal that runs through 2021. With their current contract, Sports Authority owes a $3.6 million dollar check to the Broncos due August 1st.

Native Roots told CBS 4 that they would be “willing to forgo the marijuana leaf in favor of its more well-known symbol, a simple tree with roots” if they were approved for rights.

It seems far off that a marijuana company would want to enter in the game of naming rights to an NFL stadium, and even more outlandish that Roger Goodell, who has recently handed out season-long suspensions for illegally using the drug, would allow such, but only time will tell.
