Almost Entire Virginia High School Football Team Kneels During National Anthem

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began sitting for the National Anthem starting this preseason, a move that was noticed two weeks ago. After it was, it lit a firestorm. After multiple NFL players across the league joined him, we’ve see a professional women’s soccer player do such, members of a volleyball team, and now almost an entire football team.

On Friday night in Norfolk, Virginia, almost the entirety of Maury High School’s football team protested the National Anthem by kneeling before their game against Grassfield High School.

Maury’s head coach spoke to reporters on the matter postgame:

“Our school system has said, we’re of the belief, we let our guys do what they believe in,” Head coach Fraser said after the team’s 17-6 loss to Grassfield. “And so we didn’t make an issue of it, and if they believe in a cause, that’s fine. I stand behind what they believe in, but I’m going to do what I believe in.”

This doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
