NFL Investigating Patriots For Using Deflated Footballs

The New England Patriots are under investigation yet again by the NFL, this time it might not be as severe, it might not have had as much of an impact as the Spy Gate [especially since the score was 45-7] but nonetheless the New England Patriots impressive victory is under controversy about another silly decision, allegedly.

Shortly after the AFC Championship Game went final, WTHR TV’s Bob Kravitz first reported the NFL are investigating the New England Patriots for allegedly deflating footballs. Now many people might ask, “so what?” – but there is an actual advantage of a deflated football, it offers a better grip and easier to catch. With the weather at what it was in Foxboro, it could have been an advantage in some people’s eyes.

Kravitz also reported that the Patriots are at risk of losing draft picks if they are found guilty of the accusations and also could face a fine. NBC’s Mike Florio reported earlier that several balls were removed from play for being under inflated.

Tom Brady reacted to the allegations during an appearance on WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan Show saying, “I think I’ve heard it all [now]. Oh, God. It’s ridiculous.. that’s the last of my worries. I don’t even respond to stuff like this.”

      • Hm, let’s see:

        Patriots stopped videotaping in September, 2007. They have been to two Super Bowls since then. So the “get to” part of this is wrong. As far as not winning SBs, you want to attribute all their championships to “cheating”. Only problem is, the Pats’ offense actually IMPROVED after Spygate. How do you explain that? If the videotaping was such an important offensive tool for New England, then why did their offense improve after they stopped doing it? OH and by the by, the Patriots have the highest winning percentage in the NFL.

        Also, I understand that you’ve heard 1,000 people use the word “cheating”, so now you’re repeating it, because you’re a sheep. But may I suggest you do a bit of research on this allegation you are now making? The Patriots handed over 12 footballs to the game officials 2 hours and 15 minutes before game time. The footballs were inspected and given to the ball attendant. When and how did the Patriots get hold of these balls and deflate them? Explain to me how they stole them from the ball attendant, deflated them, and then replaced them without being caught? I need details. Proof, or it didn’t happen.

          • I’ve got no dog in this fight and I do believe the Pats are the better team. IF they cheated (IF!) they should lose more than a draft pick. I did read your articles. First I had heard of the retraction. I couldn’t help thinking how the retraction was based on an investigation by Roger Goodel. And when I think of Roger Goodel and controversy, all I think about it Ray Rice. We are a cheating society. We cheat on everything from our taxes to our wives, we cheat in sport with steroids, we cheat at business with credit default swaps, we cheat our own Republic with eavesdropping and data mining. Teachers cheat. Students cheat. Lawyers LIE and cheat (lol!), politicians cheat, your priest cheats, your rabbi cheats, your mullah cheats. it’s really no stretch at all to believe an NFL team would cheat with the money associated with the Super Bowl on the line.

The news media today, has been working overtime to bring us 24/7 news that is bad, really bad, as if that is the normal was for our society to behave. By the same token, they only report a little good news to further the thought that that is not a normal thing. They have tainted many peoples viewpoint of society. These are people who were already looking for some guidance, in that area. Looks like somewhere along the way, you found TV news (media) as your litmus test for societal temperment..and that’s a shame. So many people are out to destroy this country and this is just an aspect; ‘turn her citizens against her…make them feel that this is no longer a great country, with great a remarkable people.’.. looks like they have succeeded with you. And that is a shame..

        • We can clear thi sup by viewing those boxes of tapes right? boxes of tapes with audio…Only problem is the NFL was horrified when they saw them and didn’t want a franchise to get destroyed over it publicly.

    No it isn’t. First (and most importantly) is because it hasn’t been confirmed as actually happening. To not only say so but to present it in such a fashion is disingenuous at best; at worst, it’s libelous. Secondly, even if it is eventually proven to be the case, it wouldn’t be why the Colts lost. They were outmatched in every facet of the game last night. Whatever hack wrote this story should be fired.

    Also, for what it’s worth, I am not a Patriots fan. My team is a perennial doormat who thought it would be wise to trade several years worth of 1st rounders for a running quarterback.

  7. When you get caught cheating once people are gonna come down on you for every little thing. Deservedly so too. Even though this probably had very little to do with the victory, its certainly sinister and needs investigation. If it turns out to be true, the Patriots should be fined more than draft picks. Halve their salary cap for a couple seasons as well.

    • That’s pretty ridiculous. That’s way more harsh than any penalty given out by the league for a breaking a minor rule. They will probably find the team guilty and fine them about $100,000 and take away a third or fourth round pick.

      But if they cut the Patriots salary cap they’d still win. I guarantee you can’t name more than 4 or 5 guys starting on the team outside Brady, Wilford, Edelman, and Revis. It’s a bunch of scrubs who make next to nothing anyway.

      • It’s a harsh penalty for a team who has been caught out before. Lessons must be learnt. Cheating will not be tolerated. Taking away draft picks is what they did after spy gate.

        You halve any teams salary cap and they’re gonna struggle.

      shipped by the manufacturer, will be opened in the officials’ locker
      room two hours prior to the starting time of the game. These balls are
      to be specially marked with the letter “k” and used exclusively for the
      kicking game.

      • I actually did note “all” balls in my statement. I didn’t feel the need to elaborate on it. I also don’t see how that means I don’t know or understand the rules.

        The 12 new balls are the kicking game balls.

        I am saying all balls should arrive in the same manner. The league officials look after everything about them from as soon as they open the box, to inflating them and signing them off.

        So if any tampering happens. It can only happen by a crooked game official/ball attendant or by someone on the sideline who must have been be able to isolate a ball long enough to take some air out of it. Which you would hope, would be caught on camera. But who does the NFL fine if one of their own cheats?

Despite all these “confirmations” that the NFL is investigating I haven’t seen a single press release or statement from the NFL that they are investigating anything.

Will we rally around Tom Brady and the Patriots (who should be assumed innocent, right now), or will we join with the ‘activist bully’s’ and chant the latest chant? The NFL has plenty of specific rules and has laid out plenty of specific punishments and they have no problem hanging your horse thief if one of those rules was broken. BUT, shouldn’t there be proof before the politics of personal destruction take over? Why are some of you really, really ‘hoping’ that there was something sinister?
