Today, to the joy of many and the sadness of some, Skip Bayless gave his final takes as a ‘First-Take’ host and ESPN employee. Leaving for Fox Sports, Bayless spared no one during his final day on “First Take”, and that included Stephen A. Smith and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A known Tim Tebow fan (and by fan we mean would hop in bed with him at any moment), Bayless one revealed on his final show Tuesday that Tim Tebow and the Broncos’ playoff victory over the Steelers back in January of 2012, of course irking his co-host who is a Steelers fan.
“First playoff, game, in Denver, against your favorite childhood team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, featuring Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback, Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards, including an 80-yard strike to open overtime Demaryius Thomas,” Bayless said on Tuesday morning. “It was the highlight of my career, Tim Tebow led an overtime victory in his first playoff start against the Pittsburgh Steelers.”Conversely, it was the lowest point in Smith’s career, as he was one of the many Steelers fans that were still shellshocked and depressed the day after watching Tebow abruptly end Pittsburgh’s season.
“The lowest point of my on-air career was Monday, January 9 of 2012, the day after Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards and the Denver Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in that game,” Smith said. “I gotta be really, really sick to call off work, but that day, I was so depressed, so sick at the thought of sitting across from Skip, I was looking for every excuse in the book not to show up on the air that day because I was so disgusted.”
