According to Pro Football Talk, former NFL player Eben Britton went on the record to the New York Post and said that not only did he smoke pot while in the NFL, Britton played high and in fact played better while stoned.

“NFL games I played stoned were some of the best games I ever played. Cannabis cements your surroundings,” said Britton, “A lot of people say they’re useless when they smoke weed. But hell, I played NFL games [while stoned], dude. My performances were solid and I felt really good after.”

Britton, a second-round draft pick of the Jaguars in 2009 also noted the majority of NFL players smoke week, estimating an astounding “over 50 percent and it could be as high as 75 percent.”

The league does test for weed, and we’ve seen how strict the repercussions are. Britton doesn’t think that stops players. The majority of players are tested only once a year and know approximately when in the year they’ll be tested. Players that do opt to try and maneuver past the system smoke weed during most of the year and stop only long enough to get it out of their systems to pass their annual tests.

Britton was suspended by the league during the 2015 offseason and hasn’t returned to the NFL since.
