ESPNU Will Become ESPN 8 “The Ocho” For One Day On August 8th

On August 8th, ESPN with change the name of ‘ESPNU’ to ESPN “The Ocho”.

The name plays off of the fiction ESPN spin off network seen in the movie Dodgeball. But the rebrand doesn’t just stop at the name. ESPN “The Ocho” will broadcast a full lineup of whacky sports from across the globe.

Midnight: 2016 American Disc Golf Championship

At 8 in the morning, they’ll be airing the Indian sport of Kabaddi, a game where two teams are stationed at each half of a court. They take turns sending a “raider” into the opposing team’s half and earn points if the raider manages to touch opposing team members and return to the home half, all while taking only a single breath. If however the raider is tackled and prevented from returning, the opposing team gets the point.

They will be airing Dodgeball, or Ultimate Trampoline Dodgeball at 4 a.m., so at least there’s some nod to the movie.

They’re also showing the Firefighters World Challenge XXV (this has been going on for 25 years!) and the Championship of Bags.
