Patriots Trade QB Jimmy Garoppolo To 49ers

Earlier tonight, it was announced that the Seahawks acquired OT Duane Brown from Houston to help fix a huge issue with that team.

Well now, another NFC West team went a long way to fix their major issue: Quarterback.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the 49ers have acquired Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2018 second round pick:

The 49ers have since cut QB Bryan Hoyer to make room for their new addition.

Garroppolo is set to become a free agent after this year but hard to imagine the former Eastern Illinois quarterback won’t be back with San Francisco by either working out a long term deal or the franchise tag.

The promising Garroppolo was seemingly the QB in waiting in New England, set to take over the helm once the 40-year-old Tom Brady retired. Apparently Bill Belichick has other plans.

Belichick also traded away third-string QB Jacoby Brissett earlier this season, which means the team’s quarterback depth chart currently reads as follows:

  1. Tom Brady
  2. WR Julian Edelman (IR)
  3. 3.
