NFL Refs Use Piece Of Paper To Measure Crucial First Down During Cowboys-Raiders

With all the advancements in sports in recent years, it seems almost laughable that the game of football still used a pair of old men carrying a ten yard chain out to the middle of a field to make a call that could determine a game.

With four minutes left in the fourth quarter during Cowboys-Raiders on SNF, head official Gene Steratore had the chain crew come out to measure a crucial spotting following a 3rd down play for Dallas. The spot was so close, he used a piece of paper to gauge if the nose of the football had crossed the first down line.
