Vince McMahon Takes Major Step In Bringing Back The XFL

It sure seems like Vince McMahon is planning on taking another swing at a professional football league.

McMahon, the current chairman and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment sold 3.34 million of his shares, valued at around $100 million, to fund Alpha Entertainment LLC. The wrestling owner created Alpha Entertainment in order to explore ventures outside of wrestling, and that includes professional football.

This comes days after McMahon filed for five trademarks associated with XFL.

The NFL’s ratings have taken a huge hit this season. Many people claim the decline is due to changes in the way people watch the game as well backlash from player protests and concussion issues.

Like many, McMahon realizes the decline and it’s entirely possibly in pursuing the XFL yet again to possibly create some competition for the NFL.

When the original XFL launched in 2001, it was a joint venture between WWE and NBC and lasted only one season.

Both WWE and NBC lost approximately $35 million each, after taxes, on the league.

Originally, it appeared that the return of the XFL was just smokescreen.

However, with the selling of shares and the filing of trademarks, it appears that there is a chance in hell of McMahon bringing back the XFL.
