Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. Says He Doesn’t Like Water

Odell Beckham Jr. has done and some some fairly odd and questionable things over the course of his NFL career, but this takes the cake as the strangest.

The Giants star WR has dealt hydration issues in recent games this season, heading into the locker room dehydrated at halftime, and he has an explanation why.

“I really don’t like water,” Beckham said in an interview Friday with the media. “I’m trying. I really just don’t like it. You know when you get that stomach feeling and it’s all slushy? I’m trying to stay hydrated. Sometimes, I just got to get an IV. It’s just necessary. I’ve always cramped,” Beckham said. “I feel like I’m working harder than I ever have.”

During the Giants Week 6 game against the Eagles Thursday night, Beckham was seen heading back into the locker room before time had expired in the first half, leaving Eli Manning to attempt a hail mary without his best WR on the field.

Perhaps dehydration was the reason.

“At the time, I didn’t know that he left, no,” Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said, later saying he would have liked to have Beckham available for the play. Shumur also noted Beckham’s distaste for water was news to him.

Beckham says he’s trying to stay on top of drinking water when he can.
