The Washington Redskins were the joke of the league this offseason when it was announced that instead of rebranding to a new name at the start of the 2020 season, they would adopt ‘The Washington Football Team’ as a temporary name.
After the franchise announced they’d be rebranding due to pressure from numerous directions of their racially insensitive ‘Redskins’ name, fans and media around the NFL weighed in on their favorites for the new name, with Red Hawks, Red Tails, Red Wolves, Warriors Monuments, among others being front runners.
Despite the jokes, ridicule, and the very cool concept logos and uniforms designers concocted in their spare time for a proposed new name, ‘Football Team’ could very well be here to stay.
According to multiple sources including John Keim, the team is heavily considering making the temporary name permanent.
