Marcus Mariota Made $1 Million Just By Filling In For Injured Derek Carr Thursday Night

Despite falling short to the Chargers at home Thursday night, Marcus Mariota saw his first action as a Raider and did not disappoint.

Starter Derek Carr went down with a groin injury in the first half, forcing the former Titans QB into action. Not only did Mariota play as good as any backup has during a game since 1948, he earned himself a fat paycheck in doing so.

The 27-year-old appeared in more than 60% of the snaps for the Raiders during their game, earning him an additional $200K this year per incentives in his contract. If the Raiders would have won, the number would have been raised to $325K, and $450k if they won in overtime.

Additionally, the 60% snap clause now ups Mariota’s base salary by $625K for next year, meaning simply due to Carr pulling his groin, Mariota just become nearly $1 million richer.
